Checklist for exchange students
This checklist guides you through all the required steps for your exchange studies at Tampere University, from application to the end of your semester. It applies to students starting their exchange either in the autumn semester (August–December) or the spring semester (January–May). After submitting your application and preliminary study plan, follow the checklist in order and complete each task by the indicated deadline. The steps are divided into five stages based on when each action is required during your exchange process.
The checklist includes five stages:
- Before admission – application, housing, and eligibility checks
- After admission – permits, insurance, and initial arrangements
- Pre‑arrival preparations – university registration, course registrations etc.
- Arrival and Welcome Week – arrival, orientation, and first teaching period
- After the semester has started – registrations, feedback, and later‑semester tasks
Stage 1: Before admission

Apply for exchange studies
Apply by 30 April / 15 October after nomination by your home university

Stage 2: After admission

Submit a mobility notification

Arrange health insurance
Strongly recommended for all exchange students

Make preliminary travel plans
Plan your arrival for the official August / January arrival window
Stage 3: Pre‑arrival preparations

Complete registration after receiving the email invitation

Activate your TUNI account
Required to access all university systems

Set up multi‑factor authentication (MFA)

Pay the Student Union (TREY) membership fee

Register for courses in Sisu

Complete the information security course
