Exchange student’s student union membership and student card
Exchange students at Tampere University may join the Student Union of Tampere University (TREY) and obtain a Finnish student card. The Finnish student card gives access to national student benefits, including discounted meals at student restaurants and reduced prices on long‑distance trains and buses. Membership is voluntary for exchange students, but highly recommended, as it is the only way to obtain an official Finnish (plastic) student card.
Discounted meals at campus restaurants do not require a student card or TREY membership. A Kela meal subsidy card, available from the Student Affairs Office, is also accepted and is valid in all student restaurants across Finland.
Please note that visitors and interns without official exchange student status are not eligible for TREY membership or a student card. Doctoral (PhD) exchange students should see the last section of this page.
