Guidance and counselling services at the University

The University provides students with academic counselling and guidance services that not only help you maintain academic progress and wellbeing but also encourages you to expand your expertise and take responsibility for your learning!

During your studies, you will receive guidance as part of your studies, and if necessary, also as complementary, more individual support. We offer support for studies and study planning, studying and its practices, career planning, and student well-being. In addition to self-study and support materials, you can also receive support in the form of group and individual guidance.

Study guidance and support is divided into five levels

  2. Faculty guidance services
  3. Joint guidance and couselling services
  4. Other support services of the University
  5. Support outside the University

 

1) Walk-in counselling services  – Student's Navigaattori

Advice from studies to student well-being – also on the themes of enrolment for the academic year, study rights, scholarships, tuition fees and study-related documents

Information, support and guidance for your studies – start from the Student’s Navigaattori!

The service available to all students at Tampere University, both on campus and online. The counselling service assist you with questions about your studies, student life and well-being as well as enrolment for the academic year, study rights, scholarships, tuition fees and changes to your personal details. Service also provides study-related documents. You can contact Student’s Navigaattori with any questions. If your matter is not resolved immediately, you will be helped to find the support you need.

2) Faculty guidance services

Guidance on themes: planning of your studies, studying and learning, your own field, and internship and thesis

The main focus of guidance is on individual and group guidance provided in degree programs and faculties. Your faculty and degree programme are the most important source for guidance. You receive support for your reflections regarding your field from the start of your studies right up to graduation:

  • help with matters related to Sisu: Study advisors
  • planning and scheduling of studies, PSP, course choices, degree structure, recognition of prior learning, changing study field/program, and questions related to internships and graduation: Education specialists 
  • internationalisation during studies: Mobility specialists
  • career and study considerations related to your field and development towards expertise in your field: Academic tutors 
  • course study practices and assessment, learning guidance and supervision in thesis process: Teachers 

You may also be aided by the PSP, Curricula and teaching schedules and Sisu guidelines.

3) Joint guidance and counselling services

Guidance on themes: well-being, career planning, study skills and individual study arrangements

In addition to guidance at your faculty, you may also get guidance from the joint guidance and counselling services no matter in which degree programme you study. We offer self-study materials, group and individual counselling.

You get support for:

  • well-being
  • career planning
  • study skills
  • individual study arrangements

Support is offered by guidance counsellors, career counsellors, study psychologists and specialists handling individual study arrangements.

4) Other support services of the University

Support on themes: exchange studies, exams, Finnish language support, digital services, language and communication studies, materials and help for finding resources, sports counseling, entrepreneurship, advocacy, and clubs

5) Support outside the University

The university's various stakeholders offer support in many themes.

For matters related to physical and mental health, please contact the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS). FSHS is responsible for student health care. If your ability to study is impaired for health reasons, the student, the institution of higher education and FSHS representatives can meet to discuss the most appropriate support measures (Student health meeting).
