Study support workshops and groups

Check out the Joint Guidance and Counselling Services' group offerings for the academic year 2025–2026 and join us! The Joint Guidance and Counselling Services offer a wide range of group guidance services related to well-being, study skills and career planning, provided by study psychologists, guidance counsellors, career counsellors and individual arrangements specialists, as well as peer counsellors. Below you will find the group offerings by period. Please note that registration is required for some groups. Detailed links to events and news on the Intranet, with possible registration links, will be updated in the group information throughout the academic year.

Get Stuff Done! study sessions: weekly (City centre and hybrid)

  • Does it feel challenging to grab your books, stay focused or study independently? To support independent studying, the Get Stuff Done! -study sessions will continue in the autumn semester 2025. The Get Stuff Done! sessions utilise the Pomodoro study technique. In the sessions, you will study independently with a staff member timing your work and breaks. You can come along to, for example, read for an exam, write your study diary, do research for a thesis or compose an essay.

Get Thesis Done workshops: on Mondays (Hervanta) and on Tuesdays (City Centre)

  • The Get Thesis Done workshops are intended to support you in the advancing of your thesis. The workshops are carried out by trained peer tutors who schedule the working time and arrange peer support. Please note that peer tutors do not provide guidance in matters related to the content of your thesis.

Thesis weekend: on weekends (Hervanta)

  • Thesis weekend is an intensive weekend to advance your own thesis with your peers. At the Thesis weekends students work on the goals they have set for themselves. The event is intended to support the advancing of the thesis, especially if the has student challenges in achieving and scheduling one's own work, combining studies with their work/life situation or has any need for peer support. The weekends are carried out by trained peer tutors. They schedule the working time and arrange peer support. Please note that peer tutors do not provide guidance in matters related to the content of your thesis.

Lecture: Introduction to Student’s Compass and Psychological Flexibility: Thu 8.1. at 14.15–15.00 (online)

  • The lecture is part of TAU.PSY.000 Student's Well-being and Life Skills course (1 cr), but the lecture is also available for everyone. The requirements for completing the Student Well-Being and Life Skills course include active independent use of the Student Compass virtual well-being and life skills programme and answering well-being and feedback surveys. Duration of the course is 5.1.–22.2.

Info session about individual study arrangements: Fri 9.1. at 13.00–13.30 (online)

  • In this session, you’ll get general information on individual arrangements and instructions on how to apply for them. You can also ask questions.

What motivates me? workshop: Tue 3.2. at 14–16 (City Centre)

  • What is motivation and how to influence your own feeling of motivation? In this workshop we will discuss different perspectives and give you tools that can help you find what is important to you and how to increase your own motivation when needed.

Calendar Care – Manage your time, workshop: Thu 12.2. at 14–16 (City Centre)

  • Do you repeatedly end up doing something completely different from what you had in mind? Are you unable to get started in studying or something else that you need to do? In Calendar care we stop for a moment to talk about how effective planning and routines can help you advance your studies and how you can complete tasks on time. You will get tips on time management and getting started and you can discuss your own routines and time management ideas with other students.

Puhutaan suomea! conversation club: Starting on week 4. Alternating every other week on City Centre Campus and on Hervanta Campus.

  • Finnish language conversation club. We offer a relaxed and friendly environment for students learning Finnish at all levels, as well as native speakers interested in making international friends who want to help them practice. Conversation club is held in Navigaattori spaces and there is no need to register.

Career planning

The Job Interview, workshop: Thu 27.1. at 13.30–15.30 (City Centre) & Tue 17.2. at 14–16 (Hervanta)

  • In this workshop we'll discuss what job interviews are like in Finland, how to prepare well and handle the difficult questions and we will discuss how to present yourself. The workshop is interactive, and you will be practicing your skills live with other students.

CV & Cover letter: Thu 29.1. at 14–16 (online)

  • Have you wrecked your brain with what to write on your CV or application/motivation letter? Do you need help tailoring these for a vacancy? Do you want to know what impressions recruiters might get from your documents? In this session we look at CVs and letters in general and share good tips and hints about dos and don’ts.
