Study support workshops and groups

Check out the Joint Guidance and Counselling Services' group offerings for the academic year 2026–2027 and join us! The Joint Guidance and Counselling Services offer a wide range of group guidance services related to well-being, study skills and career planning, provided by guidance counsellors, career counsellors, study psychologists and individual arrangements specialists, as well as peer counsellors. 

Below you will find the group offerings by period. Please note that registration is required for some groups. Detailed links to events on the Intranet, with possible registration links, will be updated in the group information throughout the academic year.

Well-being and study skills

Orientation: Service Fair: Tue 25.8. at 10–15 (City Centre) & Wed 26.8. at 10–15 (Hervanta)

At a fair aimed at new students, you will get to know many important service providers from within and outside the University community.

Student’s Compass: Student’s Well-being and Life Skills (1 ECTS), lecture: Introduction to Student’s Compass and Psychological Flexibility: Duration of the course 24.8.–11.10. Lecture on Thu 27.8. at 14.15–15 (online)

The Student’s Compass is a research-based virtual well-being and life skills programme. The Student’s Compass (Opiskelijan Kompassi in Finnish) offers new perspectives and practical tools to everyday problems students encounter in their studies. The web-based programme consists of various themes and exercises that are available as both text and voice or video recordings.

Info session about individual study arrangements: Fri 28.8. at 11.00–11.30 (online)

A student who has a diagnosed learning difficulty, an illness, a disability or other medical condition that affects studying, can get individual study arrangements. Also a neurodivergent stude nt (ADHD/ADD/autism) can get arrangements. The situation can be either permanent or temporary. The arrangements can be, for example, extra time for exams or assignments, or alternative methods of completion on the courses.  

In this session, you’ll get general information on individual arrangements and instructions on how to apply for them. You can also ask questions or, for example, book an appointment with an individual study arrangements specialist.

Study & stay III: make the most out of your second year: Tue 8.9. at 14.30–16 (City centre)

Are you an international degree student starting your second year? Then join us in this info & networking session! We have collected info and speakers to support you in the next steps of your studies & your life in Finland. The event is targeted especially at second-year international master’s degree students, but it is open to anyone interested.

Neurodivergent students’ meetup: Tue 6.10. 14.00–15.00 (City Centre)

This is aimed at neurodivergent students—or anyone who identifies with traits of the autism spectrum, ADHD/ADD, or other conditions on the neuropsychiatric spectrum. You do not need a formal diagnosis to participate. At the meetings, you are free to be yourself and participate in a way that suits you. The peer support activities take place in English.

Puhutaan suomea! conversation club: Starting on week 36. Alternating every other week on City Centre Campus and on Hervanta Campus.

 Finnish language conversation club. We offer a relaxed and friendly environment for students of Finnish of all levels, as well as native speakers interested in making international friends and help them practice Finnish.

Get Thesis Done workshops: on Tuesdays, starting week 39 (City Centre)

The Get Thesis Done workshops are intended to support you in the advancing of your thesis. The workshops are carried out by trained peer tutors who schedule the working time and arrange peer support. Please note that peer tutors do not provide guidance in matters related to the content of your thesis.

Thesis weekend: on weekends (Hervanta)

Thesis weekend is an intensive weekend to advance your own thesis with your peers. At the Thesis weekends students work on the goals they have set for themselves. The event is intended to support the advancing of the thesis, especially if the has student challenges in achieving and scheduling one's own work, combining studies with their work/life situation or has any need for peer support. The weekends are carried out by trained peer tutors. They schedule the working time and arrange peer support. Please note that peer tutors do not provide guidance in matters related to the content of your thesis.

Career Boost Workshop on campus, by International House Tampere: Mon 28.09. at 14.00–16.00 (Hervanta)

The Career Boost Workshop offers in-person job coaching for international students in Tampere, Finland, enhancing job search skills and career growth.
