Electronic exam instructions for Open University students

Many Open University courses include an electronic exam in TUNI EXAM. If your studies include such an exam, please read the instructions in this message carefully. We have compiled concise instructions on booking an exam, accessing the exam facilities, and completing the exam.

It is particularly important that you do not bring any items into the exam room that could be interpreted as an attempt to cheat. Please note that only an official ID and, if applicable, an access card and a storage locker key may be brought into the exam room. All other belongings, including wristwatches and fitness trackers, must be left in a storage locker.

Please also read the access instructions for the exam facilities carefully.

TUNI EXAM: How to take an electronic exam

  1. 1

    Read the instructions and regulations

Make sure you are familiar with the instructions for electronic exams and the terms of use for exam facilities before taking the exam.

  2. 2

    Register in Sisu if required

As a rule, you do not need to register separately for an exam in the Sisu system. However, in some courses, you must register for the exam in Sisu before taking the exam if this is specifically stated in the course instructions or by the teacher.

Please check in the Sisu system (My Profile → Registrations) that your registration for the course is valid. If you cannot find your registration, register in Sisu (instructions) or contact us at open.studies.tau [at] tuni.fi (open[dot]studies[dot]tau[at]tuni[dot]fi). In your message, please indicate which exam you are registering for.

  3. 3

    Make an exam booking

Once the teacher has published the exam, make an exam booking in the TUNI EXAM system. TUNI EXAM is available at exam.tuni.fi. Sign in using your TUNI username and password.

  4. 4

    Check Campus Access Rights

    Tampere

  5. 5

    Arrive for the exam

Please ensure that you arrive on time for your exam booking. Leave your outerwear, watch, smart devices, and all other personal belongings in the designated storage locker for the duration of the exam. You may bring only an official ID and, if applicable, your access card and the key to your storage locker, into the exam room. Your exam submission will be rejected if any unauthorised materials, a mobile phone, headphones or other smart devices are visible or used during the exam.

  6. 6

    Complete the exam

Complete the exam in accordance with the terms of use for exam facilities. Exams are monitored through real-time and recorded audio and video surveillance, access control systems and random inspections. Your exam submission will be rejected if any form of academic misconduct is detected. Your submission will also be rejected if you leave the exam room and re-enter during the exam.

  7. 7

    Submit the exam

Review your answers, submit your exam and leave the exam room.

Exam Visit at another university

In some courses, you may complete your exam as an exam visit. Exam visit means that you take your own university's exam in another university's Exam room.

You can find a list of universities offering exam visits on the page Exam Visit (e-exam.fi).

Instructions for making an exam visit reservation can be found on the page EXAM – Visit Instructions for Students (wiki.eduuni.fi).
