Study right at Open University
Study Right and Completion Right
The study right indicates that a student has the right to pursue studies at the Open University.
The completion right provides more detailed information about the study right by specifying which study units and their implementations the student is allowed to complete.
Both the study right and the completion right have a duration, which defines the time period during which the studies can be completed. At Tampere University, the completion right is always automatically granted for the current academic year. However, the teacher determines how each study unit is to be completed in practice. For example, a lecture exam for a study unit might be held in November, and it is completed at that time. The technical completion right lasts until the end of the semester to allow, if necessary, for retaking the exam.
In some exceptional cases, an Open University student has only been granted a study right, which specifies the study units it applies to. This occurs in studies registered through the old registration system. The principle remains the same—the study right is limited in terms of time and content (only the technical implementation looks slightly different).
You can check the duration of your study and completion rights in Sisu. Instructions are available on the page Sisu instructions for Open University students.
