Information for new students
Congratulations and Welcome to TAMK!
This page contains practical advice and other useful information, so please read it carefully before start of your studies. This page will be updated during spring 2025 for the next cohort, so check back in the summer before the programme starts!
Congratulations! You are about to start your studies in Textile and Material Engineering.
Your studies will begin on 26 August 2025 at 11.00 am (lecture room D1-04) in TAMK Main campus (Kuntokatu 3). There will be tutor students to guide you to the right place from the lobby.
Before the studies, make sure you have a well working laptop and take it with you.
Orientation Days 26 - 29 August 2025
The Orientation Days are mandatory and the best way to get started with your studies. You will meet with everyone in your study group and get to know each other, talk to the key people in building your future: your student tutors and teacher tutors, other lecturers, the head of your programme, your study counsellor, TAMK social counsellor, student union members and many more. You will also get to know various TAMK/TUNI electronic services which you need e.g. for enrolling on the courses, and you will see and hear about our facilities and services.
Protecting Accessories
Kindly ensure that you acquire a personal protecting accessories (laboratory coat and safety googles) prior to the beginning of your courses, as it is required for participation in laboratory sessions and not provided by TAMK.

Curriculum and credit transfer for prior Bachelor's studies
Take a closer look at your curriculum to better understand your study and learning goals. The individual descriptions of courses include methods, teachers, timing of the course within the academic year, evaluation criteria and exam types.
If you have prior studies at higher education level and wish to transfer credits, contact your Student Counsellor and make an appointment. For credit transfer, you need:
- Your own suggestion of the courses from TAMK curriculum that you wish to get accredited for
- official transcript of records
- description of the content of the courses (links to the original curriculum on the university website)
- number of credits for each course. If your transcript doesn’t have the number of ECTS credits for each course, you need to include a link to an explanation of the credit system of that university/country and an estimate of the number of ECTS credits of each course
It is best to contact your Student Counsellor in advance to avoid the rush during the orientation days!
Please note that for a lot of subjects, a demonstration of competence (e.g. taking an exam) is needed in order to get credits transferred.
