TAMK Student’s Guide

Regaining your study right

Reapplying for the right to study in a degree programme at TAMK

These instructions only apply to those students, who have had a study right at TAMK that has started on 1 August 2015 or after.

If you have completed all of your remaining studies (for example in Open UAS), you may apply for reinstatement of your study right following these instructions even if your study right has started before 1 August 2015 (case f).

Please read the instructions carefully first and only then fill in the application form. Apply for reinstatement of your study right with the form Returning to studies at TAMK in these cases:
a) You did not apply for extension time to complete your degree.
b) You resigned yourself.
c) Your study right has ended due to non-payment of tuition fees.
d) You forgot to enrol for the academic year AND you are a student in a degree programme taught in English.
e) You want to complete your degree and meet the following criteria:
    * A maximum of 60 cr is missing from a Bachelor’s degree/ a maximum of 30 cr is missing from a Master's degree.
    * You do not have a valid study right at any university of applied sciences for the degree you are applying for.
    * And you have either used at least two semesters of discretionary extension time OR you have not been granted extension time OR your study right has ended already some time ago.
f) You have completed all the required studies for a degree (for example at an Open UAS) and you are applying for the study right only for graduation.

Note! If you did not register for attendance or non-attendance during the registration period and you have study right left, please read the instructions Forgot to enrol.

You must attach a realistic plan for completing your studies to the application:

  • If you study on extension time or complete your degree after a break, list in the plan the courses or study modules you intend to complete and the completion schedule. If necessary, ask your student counsellor for help.
  • If you have already completed all the required courses for a degree at an Open UAS and you are applying for the study right only for graduation, the plan can simply state that everything has been completed. (Please note that completing your degree in Open UAS is not allowed, if you are liable to pay tuition fees.)

A statutory handling fee of 50 euros is collected for processing of the application. It must be paid to Tampere University of Applied Sciences Ltd's account and a copy of the payment receipt must be attached to the application.

Bank name: Tampereen Seudun Osuuspankki

Unpaid or otherwise incomplete applications are not processed.

Please note that the processing fee is non-refundable. This applies if you receive a negative decision for your application, if you have have filled the wrong application or if the application is incomplete.

Students not liable to pay tuition fees: You can apply for your study right to be reinstated from the beginning of the month that you have submitted the application or from the start of the next semester. Example: The application has been submitted and the application fee has been paid on 17 October. The study right can be reinstated no earlier than 1 October and no later than 1 January.

Tuition fee-paying student: You can apply for your study right to be reinstated from the first day of the next semester (1 January /1 August). NB! If you apply for immediate reinstatement of your study right, you must pay the full tuition fee for the partial semester! After the decision is made to reinstate your study right, you will receive instructions on how and by when to make a tuition fee payment and what the exact balance due is. Your study right will only be reinstated after the tuition fee payment is received.

If you do not have EU/EEA or Swiss citizenship, your residence permit copy is also required. TAMK will determine your liability to pay tuition fees and give you instructions for payment if that is required. Study right will only be reinstated after both the handling and tuition fee are paid.

Length of the study right granted

You can express your desired / required extent of the extension on the application. Please note that the decision may be granted differently to your expressed desire.

If you are granted to reinstate your study right, you will either be reinstated with the remaining attendance periods or granted extension time. If you have remaining attendance periods within the normative duration of the studies, those periods will be used first before any additional time can be applied for. You may be granted a statutory extension for a year at the most. You may be granted a discretionary extension for a year at the most (a semester at a time), and your graduation must be realistic within that time.

If you apply for reinstatement of your study right and meet the criteria in the case e, the study right for a Bachelor's degree can be granted for a maximum of three semesters and for a Master's degree for a maximum of two semesters. This case e study right can only be granted once and extension time will not be granted.

Evaluation

The student counsellor and the director of the school evaluate applications where the study right and/or extension time have been expired and study progress has not been sufficient. Note that the evaluation may result in a negative decision. An unrealistic graduation plan may also lead to a negative decision.

You will be informed of the decision by email to the address you have given in the application form.
