Changing the degree programme, specialisation or campus

Change of degree programme or campus (degree title remains)

You can apply for change of degree programme or campus, if your degree title remains the same (for example Bachelor of Engineering). The Head of Competence Area of the degree programme grants the decision on change of degree programme or campus.

Selection criteria:

• You fulfil the admission criteria of the degree programme.
• You have progressed well in your studies.
• There are new/free study places in the group.
• You have studied for a minimum of one semester.
• You must have sufficient oral and written language skills.

Proceed as follows:

• Fill in the electronic internal change application form
  • Attach your current transcript of records and study certificate. You can download them from Pakki.
• Deliver the application with appendices to the student counsellor of the desired new degree programme.

Application period is flexible.

Decisions will be made in May if the studies begin in August/September. Submit your application by the end of April.

Decisions will be made in November if the studies begin in January. Submit your application by the end of October (form is closed between November and December).

If you change from a degree programme in English to a degree programme in Finnish, your language skills will be evaluated in a discussion with the study counsellor and head of programme of the intended future programme. You must be able to complete studies and hand in and defend your thesis in Finnish.

If you change to a Finnish language degree programme, and you are a tuition fee paying student, your status will change into non-paying from the beginning of the next term (1 January / 1 August) from the date of the decision on the change of degree programme.

Change of specialisation

You can apply for change of specialisation within your degree programme.

Application period is flexible.

Decisions will be made in May if the studies begin in August/September. Do your application by the end of April.

Decisions will be made in November if the studies begin in January. Do your application by the end of October.

The Head of Competence Area of the degree programme (or a person authorised by them) grants the decision on the change of specialisation.

Proceed as follows:

• Fill in the electronic change application
  • Attach your transcript of records and study certificate. You can download them from Pakki.
• Deliver the application with appendices to the student counsellor of the receiving degree programme.

Change of degree programme (degree title changes = internal transfer) 

-> application in StudyInfo.fi , next application period 21 August - 30 October 2025.

You can apply for change of degree programme, where your degree title changes e.g. from Bachelor of Health Care to Bachelor of Engineering. The decision is granted by the Vice President responsible for education.

Selection criteria:

• Motivation for change of degree programme.
• You meet the eligibility criteria for the degree programme.
• You have studied at TAMK for a minimum of one semester.
• There are free/additional seats available in the study group.
• You must have sufficient oral and written language skills.

If there are more applicants than study places, are the selection criteria as follows:
- The GPA in present degree programme (in Pakki).
- The credit amount completed in present degree programme in relation to the duration of study right used in the degree programme (credits/semester).

Proceed as follows:

• First discuss your plans with the student counsellor of your existing degree programme (list of study counsellors)
• Then discuss your plans with the student counsellor of your target degree programme (list above)
• Fill in the application in StudyInfo.fi only after these discussions and attach
  • more detailed description on the grounds for changing your degree (free form) and
  • your current transcript of records. You can download it from Pakki.

Application period of autumn 2025 will begin on 21 August 2025 at 8.00 am and end on 30 October 2025 at 3.00 pm.

Decisions will be made by 11 December 2025 at the latest for the studies starting in January. Accept the offered study place by 31 December 2025 at 3.00 pm at the latest and register as present for the academic semester of spring 2026.

NB! If you are not an EU/EEA or Swiss national, and you have a non-paying student status that has been granted before the new legislation took effect 1 December 2024, your liability of paying both the application fee (100 €) and tuition fees will be re-examined if you apply for change of degree programme. Your status may be subject to change, if the new law does not grant you non-paying student status anymore.

Degree programme-specific pre-tasks related to the application process:

Transfer students

TAMK may accept transfer students from other Finnish higher education institutions or from TAMK if the pursued Finnish degree title changes in connection with the transfer. Transfer students are only taken at the beginning of semesters. Transfer application is done through Stydyinfo.fi.

Selection criteria:

• a valid study right
• enough completed studies in consideration of the used study time
• there are free study places in the degree programme
• academic success

The student counsellor prepares the decision proposal to the manager or a person authorised by the manager. The vice president decides on the acceptance of transfer students.
