Applying for traineeship abroad

A traineeship that is recognised as part of your degree can also be completed abroad. Follow these instructions and the procedures described in them when applying for and carrying out a traineeship abroad. A well-planned international traineeship will provide the greatest benefits and help you develop both professionally and personally.

Note!

  • If you are a healthcare student, such as a nurse, physiotherapist, radiographer, biomedical laboratory scientist or paramedic: Please follow the instructions on the Healthcare traineeship abroad page, as healthcare traineeships are arranged through TAMK's partner universities.
  • Before making any travel arrangements, such as purchasing flights or paying accommodation fees, make sure that you have:
    • a Learning Agreement (for Erasmus+ exchanges) or Traineeship Agreement (for exchanges outside the EU) signed by all three parties.
    • all documents required for entry to the host country (such as a residence permit or visa, if applicable). For example, if you purchase flights and your visa application is delayed or refused, you may not be able to recover the costs.

If you have any questions about the application process, please contact the International Office at outgoing.tamk [at] tuni.fi (outgoing[dot]tamk[at]tuni[dot]fi).

Preparations for traineeship abroad

1. Acquiring a training placement

There is no separate application period for international traineeships. You may therefore search for a traineeship placement and apply for a traineeship exchange at a time that fits your studies. However, we recommend securing your placement, meaning that the agreement has been signed by all parties, at least two months before the start of the traineeship.

For Erasmus+ traineeship exchanges, the Learning Agreement for Traineeship must be completed and approved before the start of the exchange period.

  • Traineeship opportunities and job search advice for TAMK students can be found on JobTeaser.
  • Healthcare and social services traineeship opportunities in Finland and abroad are advertised through Jobiili.
  • If you are looking for a traineeship exchange in another Nordic country, you can also explore opportunities on the Nordjobb website.
  • Students may also contact their degree programme's international coordinator or traineeship supervisors for further information and guidance.

2. Approval by degree programme

Before signing any binding documents, you must obtain approval for your traineeship placement from the person responsible for placements within your degree programme. The traineeship must form part of your TAMK degree programme and must be eligible for full academic credit.

3. Signing Learning Agreement for Traineeship or Traineeship Agreement

Before starting your traineeship exchange, you must complete either a Learning Agreement for Traineeship (for Erasmus+ exchanges) or a Traineeship Agreement (for exchanges outside the EU). These documents are mandatory for all traineeship exchanges and set out, among other things, the duration and content of the traineeship, as well as the insurance arrangements applicable during the exchange. The document must be signed by the student, TAMK (usually the traineeship supervisor or other authorised representative), and the host organisation.

Minimum requirements for support for training abroad:

  • Minimum length: 2 months (60 days)
  • Minimum credits: 5 cr/month

First, complete as much of the document as you can yourself. Then email it to your host organisation and ask them to complete the sections relevant to them and sign the document. The TAMK traineeship supervisor will sign the agreement last.

Make sure you fill in the correct document (only one of the following):

  • For non-Erasmus+ countries:

If your traineeship is paid, your host organisation is responsible for providing insurance cover during your working hours. For more information on insurance, please see the page Insurance and Safety During Exchange. We also recommend that students undertaking a paid traineeship sign a separate employment contract with the host organisation in addition to the Learning Agreement for Traineeships or Traineeship Agreement.

If your traineeship is unpaid, TAMK will provide insurance cover for the duration of the traineeship. Please note that you must always take out your own travel insurance, which should also cover accidents occurring during your free time.

If your traineeship is unpaid, you can print TAMK's insurance documents for the host organisation:

4. Application in SoleMOVE system

Once all signatures have been obtained, log in to the SoleMOVE system and complete and submit your traineeship application. In SoleMOVE, select Normal Exchange as the application type

Confirm your exchange in SoleMOVE after your application is approved.

Note! If you are a social services student and have arranged your traineeship placement independently:

  • In addition, TAMK must conclude a separate traineeship agreement with the host organisation. No action is required from you, but your exchange can only be confirmed once this agreement has been completed. This means that the approval you receive in SoleMOVE is conditional. We will notify you separately by email once your traineeship has been fully confirmed.
