Checklist for new Open University students
- If you are considering studies at the Open University, you should first read our instructions for prospective students.
- Remember to confirm your enrollment.
- Enrollment through Sisu: Please remember to confirm your enrollment after paying the study fee during the enrollment process, or at the latest, through the link in the payment confirmation message. If you received a message stating that your enrollment has been confirmed, you do not need to confirm your enrollment again.
- Enrollment through the Open University Admission Service: Remember to pay your study fee within 3 days of receiving the payment link.
Please be aware that your registration is binding after you have paid the fee. Read more about terms of payment and cancelling the studies.
- Activate your TUNI user account as soon as possible. When your user account is ready to be activated, you will receive a separate message by email. You will need your user account to log on to many of our electronic services. Activate your account at id.tuni.fi. NOTE! Be sure to enable multifactor authentication as soon as you have activated your TUNI account. The introduction of multifactor authentication as well as information security course are mandatory for all students.
- Check your University-issued email address on a regular basis or forward your mail to another email address. You will receive your email address when you activate your TUNI user account. You will receive all study related messages and notifications to tuni.fi -email.
- Log in to the Sisu system with your TUNI user account. You will be able to access Sisu after you have been admitted to the Open University, paid the required fees and activated your University-provided username and email address.
- You can see your course enrollment on the Sisu frontpage and under the Registration tab.
- From Sisu you can check your personal information, your studies and student number and duration of your study right. Read more about Sisu.
- Log in to Moodle, the primary virtual learning environment for our students. A link to the course's Moodle area can be found at Sisu in the Learning Environments section of the implementation: log in to Moodle as soon as the course starts. In some cases you will receive instructions for accessing Moodle when you first join the Open University. The Moodle area will be accessible to students at the start of the course.
- Learn more about the available courses and the course schedule. We will not send separate course invitations to our students. We recommend you attend the first day of class as this will be the time when the teacher provides important details about completing the course.
- Electronic examinations are mainly organised using the TUNI EXAM -system. Students sit electronic exams in the centrally supervised EXAM venues. Instructions for students and more information about the EXAM venues that are available to you can be found on the TUNI EXAM homepage.
- Find out more about the broad range of services and digital resources offered by the Tampere University Library and obtain a library card, so you can borrow textbooks. Read more about library services.
Support for your studies: the staff at the Student Affairs Office will be happy to offer you practical advice and guidance. You can also schedule a personal appointment by contacting the designated academic coordinator/officer of your field of study.
