Welcome new university students!
To help you get a smooth start to your Bachelor's or Master's studies in autumn 2026, we have compiled a list of necessary things you should take care of before the Welcome Week starts on 17 August. We look forward to having you here soon!

Make sure that you have completed all the preparation steps
Take care of all the steps listed at Welcome to study at Tampere University!
- 2
Register as a student at Tampere University
All students need to register as an attending (present) or non-attending (absent) student each academic year. We strongly recommend that you register by 12 August at the latest. You can find more information and the instructions for registration on our website.
You can get your TUNI user account only after you have registered as a student.
- 3
Get your user account
Learn about our IT services and get your TUNI user account from the IT Helpdesk. You need a TUNI user account for all the digital systems, learning platforms, email, printing and copying, wireless network for personal laptops, etc. at the University.
- 4
Apply for a student card
Apply for a student card through TREY, the Tampere University Student Union. Your student card works as a library card in the University library, it provides access to the University facilities, and it allows you to get many student benefits in Finland. You can order your student card at the earliest on 1 August 2026 when the new academic year begins. Please note that your registration as a student might take a couple of days to show up in TREY's systems, so if you are unable to order a student card right away, wait a couple of days and try again.
- 5
Join the Welcome Week!
Join the Welcome Week info sessions, service fair and student activities.
Your studies at Tampere University start with a Welcome Week, organised during 17 - 21 August 2026. You will get a lot of necessary and useful information about planning your studies, the services available to students and activities offered by our many student clubs and associations. You will also meet your student tutors and your fellow new students!

Get to know your programme curriculum
Familiarise yourself with the programme curriculum and teaching timetables for autumn 2026 and beyond. University staff will organise events and meetings during Welcome Week, which will help you put together your Personal Study Plan and select your first courses in Tampere University.

Register with DVV
Complete your registration with the local authority, Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV). Registration is required of all international students staying in Tampere for more than 90 days. Please read through the DVV instructions carefully and complete the necessary steps. This ensures you a smooth start to living in Finland and Tampere.
- 8
Pay the healthcare fee
Students registered as attending must pay a student healthcare fee to KELA (Social Insurance Institution of Finland). This fee allows you to use the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS) during your studies and is mandatory for all degree students in Finland. For instructions on how to pay the fee and additional information, please visit the KELA website.
