TAMK Student’s Guide

Individual arrangements in exams

Instructions for Students

Accessible exam room usage and booking practices

The accessible exam room B1-23 is intended for TAMK students who need their own exam room. You may book this room if you need:

  • a quiet, private room due to illness, disability, or learning difficulty
  • accessible entry
  • assistive devices, medication or snacks during the exam
  • the possibility to use the restroom during the exam
  • the possibility to read exam questions aloud
  • the possibility to bring a small child, assistant or guide dog

Students must have a recommendation for individual arrangements or a separately agreed permission to use the accessible exam room (new policy from autumn semester 2025 onwards). If you need to use the accessible exam room, please follow these steps:

  • If you have a recommendation for individual arrangements and only need your own exam room:
you can book your exam time in the EXAM system without a separate notification to exam supervision.
  • If you have a recommendation for individual arrangements and need other arrangements in addition to your own exam room (such as snacks, medication, assistive devices, restroom use during the exam, or the presence of an assistant, etc.): book your exam time in the EXAM system and inform exam supervision (tenttivalvonta.tamk [at] tuni.fi) of the exam time and the arrangements you need well in advance, at least 3 days before the exam.
  • If you do not have a recommendation for individual arrangements: from November 2025 onwards, you will need a separate permission to use the accessible exam room. In this case, contact exam supervision (tenttivalvonta.tamk [at] tuni.fi) well in advance, at least 5 days before the exam, to agree on the use of the room.

The accessible exam room B1-23 is located at TAMK’s main campus (Kuntokatu 3), on the service corridor, 1st floor of building B. TAMK students must use TAMK’s own accessible exam room. The accessible exam room is only available to those who have booked it for their exam time.

Needing only extra time is not a sufficient reason to use the accessible exam room. An exam with extra time can be taken in any EXAM room. If you need extra time for your exam, please contact the course teacher.

Electronic EXAM in the accessible exam room

  • EXAM exams can be taken on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00–18:00, Thursday from 8:00–20:00, and Saturday from 9:00–16:00. Any exceptions to opening hours are shown in the EXAM system calendar.
  • When booking your exam time in TUNI EXAM, select TAMK, B1-23, Accessible Exam Room as the location.
  • Please read carefully the Terms of Use for Exam Facilities and student instructions on the EXAM website before your exam.

  • Return the exam to the locked mailbox in the accessible exam room.

Equipment in the accessible exam room

  • Electric door (opens with access card)
  • Two workstations with height-adjustable tables and chairs
    • One station has an EXAM computer and a Wacom drawing screen

Instructions for the exam situation

Enter the room with your own access card. If you do not have an access card, contact the Kuntokatu info desk; contact details and opening hours can be found on the info points’ intranet page. Information about student access rights is available on a dedicated intranet page.

The same rules apply to exams in the accessible room as in other exam rooms. As a rule, no materials or devices may be brought into the room. Only a student card or other photo ID and access card are allowed. Leave other items (outerwear, hats, bags/backpacks) in the locker outside the room. If you have agreed with exam supervision to bring other items, place everything you need for the exam on the desk before the exam starts. Once the exam has started, you may not take out any additional items. Snacks and/or medication must be packed in a transparent bag with labels removed.

You may not leave the room during the exam. If you have agreed with exam supervision about restroom use, the nearest restroom is at the end of the service corridor on the Kuntokatu side, in front of the library.

Instructions for Teachers

Individual arrangements for electronic EXAM exams organized by teachers

Some individual arrangements for EXAM exams, such as extra time and splitting the exam into parts, are the teacher’s responsibility.

Extra time for exams: You will receive a request for extra time directly from the student. Create a personal exam for the student in the EXAM system with an extended duration:

  1. Make a copy of the original exam and set it as a personal exam.
  2. Set a longer exam duration.
  3. Add the relevant student(s) as participants.
  4. The student will receive a direct registration link by email when the exam is published. Only the named students can register for the exam. The student can take the exam with additional time in any exam room.

Splitting the exam into parts or other content-related arrangements: Create a personal exam/exams for the student, including the necessary arrangements.

Accessible exam room B1-23

The accessible exam room B1-23 is intended for students who need their own, private exam room due to, for example, illness or disability, or who need to use assistive devices, require accessible entry, or need an assistant present. Students must have a recommendation for individual arrangements or a separately agreed permission to use their home university’s accessible exam room (new policy from autumn semester 2025 onwards).

Paper exams can be organized in the accessible exam room on Mondays and EXAM exams from Tuesday to Saturday. Other individual exams should be organized in other rooms.

Electronic EXAM in the accessible exam room

A private exam room, use of assistive devices, snacks and medication, restroom use, etc., are grounds for using the accessible exam room. The student books the exam time themselves and agrees on the necessary arrangements with exam supervision (see student instructions above).
