Study abroad as part of your degree
TAMK encourages all its students to seek international experiences and go on exchange during their studies at TAMK. You can go on exchange earliest after your first year of study and spend one or more periods studying abroad. Exchange periods may last anywhere from 2 to 12 months.
Exchange destinations and applying
We offer our students a wide range of international exchange opportunities. Hundreds of foreign universities all over the world are available as exchange destinations for our students. You can apply for exchange either through different student exchange programmes or on the basis of bilateral agreements signed between partner institutions. The most important student exchange programmes are Erasmus+, (funded by the EU) and Nordplus (funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers).
All degree students and teacher education students who are registered at TAMK are eligible to apply for student exchange. Applications are invited twice per academic year. The application process always includes two stages. Students must first submit an internal application via the SoleMOVE database. After degree programme staff has pre-approved the proposed exchange, TAMK International Office notifies the host universities of the selection results. Then the pre-selected students send their application to their prospective host university in accordance with instructions provided by the host university. The host university always makes the final decision to accept or reject applications for exchange.

Financial support for outgoing exchange students
Most students fund their exchange period with student financial aid provided by Kela and an Erasmus+ grant. Outgoing students who have under-age dependants or outgoing students with a diagnosed illness or disability are eligible to apply for a Fewer Opportunities Top Up to cover some of the extra costs that they will incur while on exchange.
If you are eligible, for example, to student financial aid provided by Kela, you will continue to receive this benefit while you are on exchange.

Recognition of credits completed abroad
TAMK adheres to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), whereby credits earned by attending pre-planned and successfully completed courses at a foreign host university are counted in full towards degrees awarded by TAMK.
