Policy preparation and monitoring and evaluation

At Tampere University, we do equality and non-discrimination work through a regularly updated equality and non-discrimination policy. We encourage all faculties, service units and members of the community to take actions raised by the policy. 

During the 2023-2025 policy period, we prepared two separate equality and non-discrimination policies. The Equality and Non-discrimination Policy for HR and the Equality and Non-discrimination policy - A Functional Plan of an Education Provider combine obligations and development work related to equality and non-discrimination. Together, the documents form Tampere University's Equality and Non-Discrimination Policy 2023-2025. 

Internal units (service units and faculties), employee organisations and the Student Union TREY were represented in the working groups that prepared the policy. The draft was commented on by the faculties, service units, the Cooperation Council and numerous individuals.

Joint actions

Equality, equity and non-discrimination are made of joint actions, everyday choices, decisions and solutions - building dialogue, learning together, creating a safer atmosphere, and finding reasonable adjustments and individual arrangements that take into account changing work and study ability. As members of the university community, we all have a role to play in promoting and fostering equality and non-discrimination. We encourage all members of our community to take actions raised by the Equality and Non-Discrimination Policy.

In our university community, we are committed to applying the principles of Safer Spaces Policy which was drawn up as a collaborative effort. In addition to the Equality and Non-discrimination Policy, Tampere University had a separate Accessibility Policy for years 2023-2024.

Monitoring

The faculties and service units develop and monitor the progress of equality and non-discrimination as part of their own annual planning. In addition, the implementation of the objectives is monitored by the Equal Opportunities Committee. The most important monitoring materials in the monitoring and follow-up work are the materials created in the university's Operations Management, the set of indicators on the equal and fair Tampere University, and the pay survey data. In 2022, we also conducted an equality and non-discrimination survey to the staff, and the results were used as templates for preparing the new policies.
