Equality and non-discrimination policy of an education provider

At Tampere University the obligations of the equality and non-discrimination legislation are implemented in accordance with the Equality and Non-discrimination Policy for HR and the Equality and Non-discrimination Policy - A Functional Plan of an Education Provider in 2023-2025.

Equality and Non-discrimination Policy of an Education Provider has been prepared to support the achievement of equality and non-discrimination goals related to education at Tampere University. The plan includes three themes: education and studying; operating culture; and prevention of inappropriate treatment, harassment and bullying, and handling of challenging situations. The themes include objectives and development measures aiming to increase the educational equality and non-discrimination at the unversity. Examples of the development measures:

Education and studying

  • We organise training for teaching and guidance staff in order to provide students with equal and accessible support and guidance services at the university
  • We offer training for the teaching staff so that the student's gender, age or other individual characteristics involving discrimination do not affect the assessment of studies. In competence-based curriculum design, we describe competence on all grade levels
  • We further develop flexible study opportunities to reconcile private life, family, working and studying; and to enable equal progress in studies
  • A graduate can get a copy of their degree certificate with a changed name or personal identity code. The university ensures that instructions on requesting such a certificate can be found on the University’s website

Operating culture

  •  We communicate on equality and non-discrimination issues in a cross-cutting and integral way as part of our activities
  • We add information on issues and procedures related to equality and non-discrimination, and harassment
at the University to the learning platform of each course
  • In our educational activities, we apply the safer spaces policy and promote accessibility. We organise faculty-specific info sessions and coaching on the themes

Prevention of inappropriate treatment, harassment and bullying, and handling of challenging situations

  • We ensure that we have clear instructions on the intranet on what to do if you encounter
    inappropriate behaviour
  • We create an operating model and define responsible parties for challenging situations between the students and the teachers involving equality and non-discrimination issues.
