L2 Finnish language support
Students enrolled in a Finnish-taught degree programme whose native language is not Finnish can receive guidance and support in developing their Finnish language skills.
Communication and language studies
All students complete mandatory language and communication studies as part of their degree, including professional communication. Learn more: Studying languages.
If you are starting a Finnish-taught programme and your Finnish proficiency is below level B2, or if you are unsure about your skills, we recommend assessing your level:
- Assess your language skills | Kielibuusti
- Vocabulary test in Finnish: Sanatesti | Tuni.fi
Based on the results, you may benefit from additional studies. You can:
- Take Finnish language courses offered by TAMK as elective studies: Studying languages.
- Enroll in Finnish courses at other higher education institutions through cross-institutional studies (RIPA): Instructions for outgoing cross-institutional students.
S2 guidance
S2 advisors provide individual support and guidance related to Finnish language skills. Staff members may also contact an advisor if there are concerns about a student’s language proficiency.
Personal Study Plan in Finnish language (Kieli-HOPS)
During a Kieli-HOPS discussion, the student and S2 advisor review the student’s language skills and agree on possible support measures. Book an appointment by email and complete the Kieli-HOPS plan together with the advisor.
S2 support form
Students whose native language is not Finnish may be eligible for support measures, such as extra time in exams and written assignments. The support form is provided after the Kieli-HOPS discussion.
Instructions for student
- Book a Kieli-HOPS appointment via email with S2 advisor.
- Attend the discussion.
