Benefits of international experience

And what does internationalisation in studies mean?

International skills are basic skills that you benefit from and use in everyday life and work. Internationalisation in studies is about accumulating these skills. When you acquire international skills, you may also gain new, wonderful experiences and friendships that last a lifetime!

Here are five reasons to internationalisation during studies:

  1. You grow as a person. This is a cliché, but it’s true! International experience develops independence, adaptability, and problem-solving skills. It can also increase self-confidence and open-mindedness.

  2. Your language skills improve. International experience offers the opportunity to learn and improve foreign language skills. This can be an advantage in the job market, as many professions value multilingualism.

  3. Your network expands. Studying abroad or with international classmates gives you the chance to create contacts and networks that can be useful for future career opportunities – or simply enriching and enjoyable.

  4. You understand others better. Studying abroad or with international classmates helps you understand and appreciate different cultures and perspectives. It likely improves your ability to work in multicultural teams and global work environments.

  5. You gain a professional advantage. Employers often value international experience because it shows you have the ability to adapt to new situations and work in a global environment. Not everyone has international experience, so it can help you stand out.

The “Internationalisation in Studies” section in the Student's Guide helps you explore internationalisation opportunities so you can choose your own path.
