Study Environment Inspection

One of the responsibilities of the Finnish Student Healt Service (FSHS) is to promote and monitor the health and safety of the study environment in educational institutions and student well-being in study communities. The inspections are coordinated by student healthcare and carried out together with students, the staff at the educational institution and the health inspector of the municipality in question.

Goals of the Inspection

The OPY Inspections aim to assess and enhance study environment ergonomics, the adequacy of breaks, the safety of facilities, and the overall well-being experienced in the community. This process helps universities develop their operational models and identify their strengths.

What Does an Inspection Include?

The inspection is conducted in collaboration with students and staff members of TAMK , FTHS professionals, and municipal health inspectors of city Tampere. Study Environment Inspections include the FSHS student well-being survey, evaluations of study facilities, and discussions with students and staff. The inspection results identify the current state of the assessed environment and highlight three key areas for improvement. These areas are monitored annually to ensure that necessary development actions are implemented. FSHS ispections are conducted regularly every three years. At TAMK (Tampere University of Applied Sciences), FSHS Inspections are generally carried out within specific competence units.

FSHS Inspection Action Plans

Reports on FSHS  Inspection action plans can be found in Valvomo here (in Finnish). The implementation of recorded actions is monitored annually.

The Finnish Student Health and Wellbeing Survey (KOTT)

The national Finnish Student Health and Wellbeing Survey (KOTT) produces versatile data on the health, wellbeing, study abilities, and health services of students and any changes that have occurred in them. The respondents are students at universities of applied sciences and universities aged 18 to 34.  The KOTT survey is carried out once every four years by the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS). You can find the results of the KOTT study here
