Study support workshops and groups

Check out the Joint Guidance and Counselling Services' group offerings for the academic year 2026–2027 and join us! The Joint Guidance and Counselling Services offer a wide range of group guidance services related to well-being, study skills and career planning, provided by guidance counsellors, career counsellors, study psychologists and individual arrangements specialists, as well as peer counsellors. 

Below you will find the group offerings by period. Please note that registration is required for some groups. Detailed links to events on the Intranet, with possible registration links, will be updated in the group information throughout the academic year.

Well-being and study skills

Student’s Compass lecture  – Introduction to Student’s Compass and Psychological Flexibility: Tue 20.10. at 14.15–15 (online)

The Student’s Compass is a research-based virtual well-being and life skills programme. The Student’s Compass (Opiskelijan Kompassi in Finnish) offers new perspectives and practical tools to everyday problems students encounter in their studies. In addition to the independent coursework you can take part in the lecture. The lecture is open to everyone interested in well-being.

Calendar Care – Manage your time: Wed 21.10. at 14–16 (Hervanta)

Do you repeatedly end up doing something completely different from what you had in mind? Are you unable to get started in studying or something else that you need to do? In Calendar care we stop for a moment to talk about how effective planning and routines can help you advance your studies and how you can complete tasks on time. You will get tips on time management and getting started and you can discuss your own routines and time management ideas with other students.

Puhutaan suomea! conversation club: on Tuesdays at 15.30–17.00 (City Centre & Hervanta)

Finnish language conversation club. We offer a relaxed and friendly environment for students of Finnish of all levels, as well as native speakers interested in making international friends and help them practice Finnish.

Get Thesis Done workshops: on Tuesdays, at 9–16 (City Centre)

The Get Thesis Done workshops are intended to support you in the advancing of your thesis. The workshops are carried out by trained peer tutors who schedule the working time and arrange peer support. Please note that peer tutors do not provide guidance in matters related to the content of your thesis.

Thesis weekend: on weekends (Hervanta)

Thesis weekend is an intensive weekend to advance your own thesis with your peers. At the Thesis weekends students work on the goals they have set for themselves. The event is intended to support the advancing of the thesis, especially if the has student challenges in achieving and scheduling one's own work, combining studies with their work/life situation or has any need for peer support. The weekends are carried out by trained peer tutors. They schedule the working time and arrange peer support. Please note that peer tutors do not provide guidance in matters related to the content of your thesis.

Career planning

Introduction to career planning: Mon 26.10. at 10–12 (online)

Are you an international student looking to develop your career plans? Then join us for an introduction to career planning. The lecture is part of the Joint introductory studies for first-year international Master’s degree students, but other international students and anyone interested in the topic is welcome to join.

Working in Finland, alumni stories: Mon 2.11. at 16–18 (online)

Career Boost Workshop on campus, by International House Tampere: Thu 5.11 at 14.00–16.00 (City Centre)

The Career Boost Workshop on campus offers job coaching for international students in Tampere by the talent advisers of International House Tampere. The focus is on enhancing your job search skills and offering support for your career in the Tampere region.

Recognize your skills: Wed 11.11. at 14–16 (City Centre)

What are your skills? Can you put them into words easily? What are the professional, general working life and career skills? What skills are important? How do you prioritise what to tell employers? In this Study & Stay workshop we look at identifying your skills and presenting them to an employer in a couple of sentences.

Job hunting in Finland, lecture: Mon 23.11. at 10–12 (Hervanta)

A career lecture in English where we discuss the job hunting process in Finland. This lecture will discuss the concrete steps of analyzing a vacancy, contacting an employer, writing a good CV and motivation letter, and preparing for a job interview. We will share lots of tips and tricks, examples, and dos and don'ts.

Study & stay II: internship and summer jobs: Mon 30.11. at 10–12 (online)

In this Study & Stay session we introduce relevant services and give lots of tips and advice, for example about how to find an internship or summer job, where to get help if you want to develop your entrepreneurial thinking or how to start your job search.

CV support: Wed 2.12. at 13.30–15.30 (City centre)
