  • Powder manufacturing methods.
  • Powder processing methods. Milling, screening, additive systems, spray drying.
  • Characterization methods used in ceramic materials processing at different manufacturing stages. Density, porosity, surface area, pore size, and particle size.
  • Colloidal processing. Interaction of particle surfaces. Stabilization methods. Additive systems in colloidal processing. Basic rheology.
  • Shape forming. Pressing techniques, slip casting, extrusion, injection molding, tape casting, and 3D printing.
  • Heat treatment cycle. Drying, binder burn out, calcination, solid state sintering, liquid phase sintering.

The course grade will be determined through three assessment items: 1) taking a 5-min Mini-quiz at the end of each lecture (14X), 2) writing a diary for each lecture (14X), and 3) writing a report for each laboratory exercise (3X)..
