Global Health Policy and Issues, 20 cr

The module will provide a comprehensive account of global health policy, governance, covering key global health issues from environment to global social policy and inequalities. The core courses will cover institutional, legal, and policy-related global issues and global governance for health, how local and global environmental issues are interlinked with health and on global social policy and social determinants of health. An optional course can be on global mental health, strategic health policy, health systems, sustainable food systems or other courses covering contemporary issues in global and public health.

After successful completion of the module, a student

- understands basic concepts, institutional and legal context of global health policy and how other policy agendas, including SDGs shape global and national health policies

-understands how global health policy agendas relate to health and environmental policies and concepts as a global health issue

-understands how social policy, social protection and inequalities affect health and what is meant by social determinants of health

-has further understanding of a global public health issue on the ground of optional course of relevance to health 

-the study module provides students with rounded knowledge on key global health issues from global to local level suitable to be combined by wide range of studies for students seeking a career with international, sustainability and/or public policy focus.
