Doctoral Programme in Engineering Sciences, 240 cr
- Description
- Structure and studies
After completing the degree the students have demonstrated systematic understanding of engineering sciences and their societal significance. They understand the limitations and possibilities of scientific research methods in their own research area, can apply existing methodology for other areas, and they can create new research methods to solve scientific, engineering, and societal problems of the future with scholarly integrity. The graduates can critically evaluate the scientific, engineering, and societal significance and impact of the results. The students can analyze, evaluate, and synthesize new and complex engineering ideas and concepts especially from the viewpoint of scientific quality. The graduates are able to promote complex engineering ideas and concepts to non-expert audience and society at large using knowledge-based argumentation. They are able to communicate and function as experts in groups comprising members from diverse culture and language backgrounds, and they can communicate with peers and colleagues in the larger scholarly and engineering community and society at large. The students are able to follow lifelong learning to pursue their careers in academia, industry, or to change the sector from one to the other at any point during the future career.
The Doctoral Programme in Engineering Sciences has strong industrial relevance. Our graduates have the ability to refine industrial challenges into scientific research questions and apply scientific methods to create new knowledge. Upon completion of the Doctor of Science in Technology degree, our doctoral graduates will have the expertise to pursue challenging careers in the field of engineering sciences. The doctoral programme covers the following research fields: Automation Science and Engineering, Mechanical and Production Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering. The programme is closely focused on technology and offers doctoral students access to state-of-the-art research environments.
The doctoral programme provides students with excellent subject knowledge and scientific and communication skills. Our doctoral graduates possess the competencies to effectively collaborate with industrial or academic experts and communities. Our graduates are able to critically evaluate and analyse data to answer research questions, communicate their results, and generate new knowledge. They have the ability to apply their skills and expertise and therefore enjoy a broad range of career opportunities in both industry and academia.
