- Description
- Completion options
Important elements of the course content are critical urban theory, progressive planning thought and the Global South. Planning Theory II, thus, continues from the contents of Planning Theory I towards the current academic and practical discussions. Pedagogically, the course traces the origins of current theoretical topics to the recent history since the 1970’s and invites students to explore concrete urban areas, projects and events in the light of selected theories. Central topics include global urbanisation, uneven urban development, climate change and ecology, digitalisation and data autarky, gender and equity as well as lively public space, heritage and urban retrofits. Alongside with introducing different theories and literature related to the current phenomena, the course aims to create a platform for open and active discussion.
The course does not include design, but focuses on research, discussion and scientific presentation. Each student chooses an object, area or phenomenon to be studied with an interesting theoretical approach and related literature. Alongside with participating in discussions, the course's key tasks include analysis, conference paper and presentation to the public.
