Procedures for requesting and arranging individual study arrangements vary depending on whether the exam is a centralised paper-based exam, an electronic exam in the TUNI EXAM system, or another type of exam. Arrangements must always be agreed upon well in advance. You can view instructions specific to each exam type by opening the instructions for students or teachers.&nbsp;

You can receive individual study arrangements for exams if you have obtained a proposal for individual study arrangements. Read more about <a href="https://www.tuni.fi/en/students-guide/handbook/uni/support-studying-and-well-being/accessibility-and-individual-study-arrangements/obtaining-individual-study-arrangements">obtaining individual study arrangements</a>. Once you have received the university-issued proposal for individual study arrangements, you may request individual arrangements for paper-based and electronic exams as follows: <h2>Centralised paper-based exams (Registration in Sisu) </h2>Inform Exam services (tenttipalvelut.tau [at] tuni.fi) about the need for individual study arrangements at least one week before the exam. Exam services will verify your right to individual arrangements, so you do not need to send the document.Here is information on how the most common accommodations are arranged in centralised exams:<ul><li data-list-item-id="ef2164f06dfc4036965e3decf35a05f3f">Separate / smaller exam room: You will take the exam either in a smaller exam hall or in another space reserved by the Exam Services. The Exam Services will inform you of the exam location after the exam registration period has ended.</li><li data-list-item-id="efee2f366350209a11f4d8ad956f3d47f">Extra time: All students who have requested extra time will take the exam in the same room. If multiple exam halls are in use and your exam hall differs from the one indicated in Sisu, the Exam Services will notify you after the registration period. Upon entering the exam hall, please report to the exam invigilator.</li><li data-list-item-id="e064d246f3e0c2ce0d673f802bb2d8ca7">Medical equipment: Report to the exam invigilator upon entering the hall and place your equipment on the desk before starting the exam. If you use a phone for blood sugar monitoring, inform the invigilator.</li><li data-list-item-id="e797cc59f0d9b6dd8a90a29c4c79d8905">Snacks: Report to the exam invigilator upon entering the hall and place your snacks on the desk before starting the exam. Please note the following restrictions:<ul><li data-list-item-id="e6ff12915cb5d6c0551f6ec5e04fb4715">Snacks must be packed without any text on the packaging.</li><li data-list-item-id="e9c46eda2d49105332b2f4bcfe3e82b55">Eating must not cause mess in the exam room.</li><li data-list-item-id="edacd77579960e1607a9f895982dc7f33">Eating must not disturb other examinees.</li><li data-list-item-id="e34a83ac78fe09b49129587568bcfd336">Common allergens such as citrus fruits and peanuts should be avoided.</li></ul></li><li data-list-item-id="e54553fc86efdb6a0359c9c1642180aea">Bathroom Breaks: Bathroom breaks are available to all students taking exam, so there is no need to arrange this in advance with Exam Services. When you raise your hand, the invigilator will escort you to the restroom.</li></ul><h2>Electronic exams (exam booking through TUNI EXAM, registration in Sisu) </h2>The information of your proposal for individual study arrangements does not automatically transfer to the TUNI EXAM system. Here are instructions for obtaining the most common arrangements:<ul><li dir="ltr" data-list-item-id="e5a869b85e55a473d866b2b9917bf3555">Separate room: Book directly in the TUNI EXAM system without separate notification to Exam Services. Accessible exam rooms are available both in Hervanta (Päärakennus PB112b) and in the City Center Campus (Päätalo A026). Starting from October 2025, using accessible exam rooms requires a Proposal for individual study arrangement. The proposal must include a recommendation to use an accessible or separate room.<ul><li dir="ltr" data-list-item-id="e5e9f8bcc5d349fd44de7c15a5afb80b3">If you do not have a proposal for individual study arrangements, please agree on the use of accessible exam rooms with Exam Services (tenttipalvelut.tau [at] tuni.fi)</li></ul></li><li dir="ltr" data-list-item-id="e31bf5e4264a63e4cd426dfabbef77f56">Extra time: Request extra time for the electronic exam from the course teacher, who will create the extra time exam in the system as a personal exam. You will receive an email with a direct exam booking link once the exam is created, and you can book the exam time.</li><li dir="ltr" data-list-item-id="eef6a1581c0c5ae0abd25e421020bf693">Medical equipment: If you need medical equipment during the exam, you must inform Exam Services in advance at tenttipalvelut.tau [at] tuni.fi (tenttipalvelut[dot]tau[at]tuni[dot]fi) so that the matter can be taken into account during supervision.<ul><li dir="ltr" data-list-item-id="e5ad4a0c41c180f2e9c544529af36e062">If you use a phone for blood sugar monitoring, the exam must be taken in an accessible exam room (Päärakennus PB112b or Main Building A026).</li></ul></li><li dir="ltr" data-list-item-id="e05f7898460bd3c40314e3b2de2302e3c">Snacks (incl. water bottle): If snacks need to be brought into the exam room, notify tenttipalvelut.tau [at] tuni.fi (tenttipalvelut[dot]tau[at]tuni[dot]fi) before the exam so that this can be taken into account in surveillance. Bathroom visits are primarily arranged on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 9.00 and 15.00</li><li dir="ltr" data-list-item-id="e4dd3a33e3dea780df269e7f7b14ff293">Ear plugs: All exam rooms are equipped with earmuffs available for free use. If using earmuffs is not possible and you need to use ear plugs instead, you should agree on this with Exam Services (tenttipalvelut.tau [at] tuni.fi (tenttipalvelut[dot]tau[at]tuni[dot]fi)) before each exam session.</li><li dir="ltr" data-list-item-id="ee54fc92e3ea7cba9040bc425d73d425e">Taking notes: Accessible exam rooms are equipped with Wacom drawing screens, which allow sketching and drawing. Wacom screens are also available in certain exam rooms: Päätalo A203d, Tietotalo TA203, and Päärakennus PC230. Additionally, all exam computers have tools suitable for note-taking, such as Notepad and Word.</li></ul><h2>Other exams (lecture exam, remote exam, etc.)</h2>Contact the teacher regarding individual study arrangements.

The student arranges these with the exam services, and information about these individual arrangements is not conveyed to the teacher. The student must have a proposal for individual study arrangements.The teacher is responsible for individual arrangements related to the content, method of completion, or assessment of the exam in consultation with the student. If necessary, the teacher arranges an alternative method of completion for the exam. <h2><a class="ck-anchor" id="electronic exams"></a>Electronic exams </h2>Extra time for the exam: You will receive a request for extra time for the electronic exam directly from the student. A personal exam with extended time is created for the student in EXAM.<ul><li dir="ltr">Due to EXAM settings, the extra time is usually +1 hour. If you need additional support, contact EXAM support (exam [at] tuni.fi (exam[at]tuni[dot]fi)).</li><li dir="ltr">How to create an exam with extra time:<ol><li dir="ltr">Make a copy of the original exam and define it as a personal exam.</li><li dir="ltr">Set a longer exam duration.</li><li dir="ltr">Add the student(s) as participants in the exam.</li><li dir="ltr">The student will receive a direct registration link via email once the exam is published. Only the named students can register for the exam.</li></ol></li></ul>Separate exam room: The student books a single-seat accessible exam room or any other desired EXAM room themselves. This does not require arrangements from the teacher.Dividing the exam into parts or other arrangements related to the content of the exam: Create a personal exam/exams for the student where the necessary arrangements are taken into account.Electronic exams requiring staff presence: Exam services take care of arrangements requiring staff presence (e.g., bathroom visits). The student arranges these with Exam services. <h2><a class="ck-anchor" id="lecture exams"></a>Lecture exams </h2>The teacher is primarily responsible for individual arrangements for lecture exams, unless otherwise agreed in the degree program/faculty.Extra time: The teacher and the student can agree on the length of the extra time and, for example, whether the exam with extra time starts earlier or continues later. Please ensure that someone is supervising the student with extra time.Separate or quieter exam room: Book a suitable separate exam room for the student and arrange supervision for the exam.Taking the exam on a computer: The exam can be conducted in one of the following ways:<ul><li dir="ltr">You can create a personal exam for the student in the Exam system:</li></ul><ol><li>Create a personal exam in Exam.</li><li>Add the exam questions and set the settings, such as the exam period and duration.</li><li>Add the student as a participant in the exam.</li></ol><ul><li dir="ltr">The student takes the exam at the same time and in the same room as other students, but uses a computer instead of paper:</li></ul><ol><li>The computer can be the student's own, borrowed from the IT helpdesk, or from the faculty.</li><li>The exam can be provided to the student as a file on a USB stick at the start of the exam.</li><li>The student answers either in the same file or a different file if necessary, attaches the answer file to the USB stick, and returns it to the teacher/exam supervisor at the end of the exam. </li></ol><h2><a class="ck-anchor" id="remote exams"></a>Remote Exams</h2>The teacher is responsible for individual arrangements for remote exams. If you want to ensure that the student does not have access to the internet or other materials, prefer the Electronic exam in TUNI EXAM. <h2><a class="ck-anchor" id="other"></a>Other </h2>Alternative exam methodsAn individual arrangement can also be an alternative exam method, such as replacing a paper-based exam with an electronic exam, replacing an on-campus exam with a home exam (e.g., Moodle), or taking the exam in parts. The exam can also be completely replaced with another method of completion (e.g., an essay instead of an exam). These arrangements are agreed upon between the teacher and the student.When agreeing on an alternative method of completion, it is important to consider the learning objectives and assessment of the course. Individual study arrangements are not intended to deviate from the learning objectives or change the assessment of the course. Changing the exam dateThe teacher and the student can agree to change the exam date if the student, for example, cannot take the exam at the given time due to health reasons. Exams for visually impaired students (both TUNI EXAM and paper-based exams)Paper-based exams are not suitable for visually impaired students. The use of TUNI EXAM is also often not possible. The exam can be conducted with the assistance of exam services as follows:<ul><li dir="ltr">The student informs exam services about the upcoming exam well in advance (preferably 2 weeks earlier).</li><li dir="ltr">Exam services book an accessible exam room and contact the teacher.</li><li dir="ltr">The teacher provides the exam material in an accessible format to exam services (Word file, exam services will guide if necessary).</li><li dir="ltr">Exam services receive the student and provide the exam material on a USB stick.</li><li dir="ltr">The student takes the exam on their own computer and returns the answer on the USB stick. The exam is supervised via cameras. The student's assistant can be present in the exam room.</li><li dir="ltr">Exam services deliver the answer to the teacher via secure email or, if necessary, as a printout.</li></ul> The teacher can also independently arrange the exam without Exam services. The teacher can book a suitable room for the exam and arrange supervision.
